Aug 31, 2009: Giant Freeze draws over 200 participants!

Newark Film Festival

Thanks to all the 200 people involved in The Giant Freeze yesterday on Main Street in Newark, DE.

Passers-by wandered through the frozen crowd perplexed, stared in disbelief, and even grabbed their cell phones to start calling friends, telling them what was going on. About 200 people gathered on busy Main Street between Grotto's and California Tortilla, regularly a very trafficked area, and stopped in their tracks for 5 whole minutes.

The News Journal was on hand again to take note of this unique experience. Full details can be seen here.

Special thanks to Rita's for providing the first 50 freezers with free water ice, California Tortilla for not only participating (the owner even froze as he pushed in a chair on their out-door patio), but also offering freezers 15% off their meals, the Fun Department for organizing the event, Downtown Newark Partnership for assuring our cars would be safe from the tow truck, The Newark Post for their coverage, and The News Journal for their continued support and assistance in spreading the word, and of course, our participants, without whom this fun, mischievous event would not have been possible.
